I went here on a double-date because we lucked out on a prime time reservation and I had heard good things. However, I don’t think it lived up to the hype. We probably spent $600 between a 2 bottles of wine and the suggested portion of shared plates for the table, and not only was it not incredibly impressive/different, but we all ended up hungry and having a second meal. Portions flavor could definitely be improved given the price. What it lacks in substance, it definitely makes up for in ambiance. It was a beautiful evening (highly recommend going when you can sit outside) and the staff is very attentive and knowledgeable.

Very nice Mediterranean restaurant in DC. It's a high-end restaurant and expensive but the area and ambiance is really nice. Great for dates and group of friends. The food isn't authentic Mediterranean, mainly seafood, but still delicious! Service was great. Rich wine selection too.

Finally got to try Iron Gate and went for brunch. Everything was wonderful - tried several dishes both sweet and savory. Riccota hazelnut pancakes were an unexpected favorite. Lots of special touches. Interesting cozy atmosphere and excellent service. The courtyard would be perfect when the weather is nice. The courtyard area is dog friendly and we saw two folks with dogs outside.

I came to Iron Gate after I gave up trying to find a bar in DuPont that wasn't insanely packed or one in which I didn't have to yell to talk to the person I'm with. Iron Gate fit the bill perfectly; you've got a long, narrow spot with a decently sized, quaint bar and a few tables on either end. The food is excellent-- it is pricey and portions are small but that's standard fare at this sort of establishment. The old fashioned that I had was very good and the wine selection is expansive. If you're looking for a place to take someone that's a bit more upscale and relaxed than your standard DC fare, Iron Gate is a solid bet (just be prepared to pay extra).

Great atmosphere with solid dishes and intriguing cocktails. Perfectly cooked octopus, unique broccoli anchovy bruschetta. Complimentary birthday cake too! Edit: Second visit we were seated 45 min after our res but the service was amazing to compensate. Favourite DC restaurant!
