Love the philosophy. Too many places are all about fighting, rather than perfecting the individual. You have the kind of holistic approach that gets people ready for life.

I train in the school in 1993 for about three years with family. In the class were my daughter and wife Denise and Christine Williams from Helsa, Germany. My Name Andy Williams, in the time I was Sensei Andy Williams. Now I’m a 5th Dan in Germany. To me and my family the school was the best Martial Arts school. BOJUKA RYU and the BPSA made you have a family as one and we work as one to be the best Martial Arts School in CA… Tell all HI and keep the good Name BOJUKA RYU…

I like the diversity of the members. Comprised of every age, gender, ethnic and cultural background as well as reasons to why they started. We’re all there because we like the idea of learning something new and finding a fun way to stay in shape for the most part. The teachers are awesome and the vibe is super chill
The San Francisco Capoeira Center

I cannot say enough good things about Capoeira Angola Quintal SF! I began going because I was tired of the gym and running - I expected a good, full body work out (which I definitely got!) but didn't expect how much I would love the teacher, Tucano, and his very welcoming students. I never felt out of place, even when learning brand new things. His teaching style is warm and humorous, yet he pushes me to do things I never thought possible.
If you have never tried Capoeira before, I highly recommend this school. There are students of all levels in each class, so you will never be out of place as a very beginner. Tucano is very skilled at tailoring his lessons to beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. He speaks about "mindful capoeira" - emphasizing how important it is to understand the details of each movement, similar to how a yoga class works, but wayyyy more fun. It also seems like he is really great person in general - he is really good at welcoming everyone into the CAQ community.
All in all, capoeira is an amazing way to not only get in shape and get strong, flexible, and agile, but to do so in one of the most bad ass ways possible. If you are looking for those sorts of things AND want to love your teacher and fellow students, feel like you are part of a community, and get a big old boost of self esteem and happiness, I recommend CAQ SF over any other capoeira school in SF. ITS AWESOME!!!!! See you there!!!! :)

Claudio Franca Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I came to Claudio's with a background mainly in Muay Thai and some MMA training, but with a desperate need for improvement of my ground game. I have now been there for a few years and can say it's one of the best gyms I have belonged to. With locations in Watsonville and San Jose, I can train no matter where my work takes me in the area since I am an over the hill commuter. The kids classes are always fun with plenty of younger kids and pre teens. The morning classes are usually a little smaller which is great for some personal attention. The night classes and Saturday AM are much larger and generally a bit more competitive. Tons of competitors and a few pro's. Overall great atmosphere and highly recommended.

I was a student at GM Jin's martial arts academy for approx. 2 years in the 90's. GM Jin is a great instructor with a contagious smile. It was a wise investment in that I had long term benefits for the hard work. My only criticism is that I thought we should have done a little more sparring.
