My son is fairly new at Halstrom, but so far it's the perfect match for him. Thank you, Halstrom teachers and staff!

I have mixed feelings about this school, but overall I had a great time. It's really a shame that I didn't learn the verb of gustar and tener and how to conjugate infinitives in Spanish nor witness the completion of the chapel while I was there. Will update this review to 5 stars once the chapel and the whatever learning center is completed, but I'll probably have my grandchildren do that.

I have nothing but the best things to say about this school. My daughter started in the toddler room early last year and now is in one of the preschool class. She's had the best teachers in every class, and she still enjoys seeing them in the hallway. The staff is always happy and smiling and looks like they love working in this school. I always see the same teachers, so their staff turnover is none. The best part is that they don't have substitute teachers, so the extra teachers they hire are always there to go into the classrooms, which makes me feel good since there's no stranger coming in if a teacher is out sick.
The curriculum and outstanding learning that goes on is astonishing. I love the daily reports, pictures, vidoes detailing all the lessons and project kids worked on. This helps me stay on top of my child's advancement.
Best part is the way their management keeps everyone together, and the whole school running so nicely. Mrs. Shalini is the backbone of the whole school, and the way children run to her in the hallway, or stop by her office to say goodbye shows that even they notice her admiration for the children. She always answers my questions (even on weekends). She truly has a heart of gold. Abbey and Fernando are amazing directors. They are always out and about the school making sure teachers get what they need. I applaud everyone at this school, and I am so happy my child will be a Goddard graduate next year.
Also I don't know how they keep it so clean, but this is the cleanest school I've seen.

My children have been attending WCCS for the last five years. Overall, we are pleased with their learning experience, before and after school childcare program, and the opportunities the kids have to learn both on and off campus. The class sizes are not too big (the most has been 26 students) with the teachers and administrative staff easily accessible. I am very happy that our children can stay at the same school from kindergarten through 8th grade. The school provides the children with a great educational and spiratual foundation that cannot be found at public schools. The tuition is reasonable and affordable for many and they do not force you to participate in fundraisers. They have many fundraisers throughout the year that allows you to determine which ones work best for you. They also have great field trips for the students, especially for children starting in 4th - 8th grades that include Sacramento/San Francisco, Astro Camp, Nature Camp, and the BIG Historical Studies Tour in 8th grade to Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. They also have good programs that address music, computers, physical education, and for those children who need it, an ILC program. If you are looking to make an investment in your child, their education and their future, I would encourage you to consider WCCS.

Drinking Gourd Elementary School
2809 Shirley St, Eugene, Oregon, 97404, United States
My daughter goes to Drinking Gourd and my younger daughter will go next year. DG have a small multi age class and very experienced teachers. The children work in a "contract system" and have a menu and tasks that they perform individually and with one-on-one teacher guidance. Prior to making my decision, I visited and I saw a boy working at a station completely absorbed. It is private but with excellent financial aid. While the philosophy is not competitive between students, students excel and are well prepared for their further studies. They are empowered, independent, and are developing an ego founded on openness toward others, patience, and perseverance in a safe environment. While the pedagogy of the school seems to draw upon alternative school best practices, the over arching philosophy is essentially feminist, which means to me that it is gender neutral and not by default male-centric. There is a critical eye cast toward casual cultural assumptions. I think both boys and girls benefit from that. Bottom line is my daughter loves school and my youngest can't wait to go.
South Hills Academy
1600 E Francisquito Ave, West Covina, California, 91791, United States
Both my children have attended South Hills Academy (SHA) since they were in preschool. Initially I was attracted to SHA's strong academic reputation as well as the Christian values fostered by the school. The faculty and administration of SHA are dedicated and committed to providing students not only with superior academics, but also a strong faith-based foundation. There are many opportunities throughout the year for the students to shine and represent their school since SHA actively participates with several other schools in the Math Olympics, Speech Meets, Spelling Bees, and even Robot Rallies (showcasing its Science Technology Engineering Math program). SHA has always done incredibly well at these competitions which is a testament to the robust level of preparation and instruction that our students receive at this school. SHA also offers a wonderful sports program to its students. Since SHA is relatively small, most students who want to participate have the opportunity to join the various sports--basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc. Last year, the girls volleyball team took first place in their division with a perfect record to 14-0. The boys and girls basketball teams also took first place in their respective divisions.
My daughter graduated from the 8th grade last year. She placed in the 96th and 99th percentile (on a nationally-ranked basis) on high school entrance placement exams that she took at two top-rated schools in the area. In addition to receiving Honors at Entrance designations, she was also offered maximum scholarships at both of these high schools. Many of her classmates have similarly done very well. As a parent, I see this as a direct reflection of the academic foundation that she received at SHA. My son is only in 5th grade, but he is on the same success track as my daughter. Needless to say, I am extremely satisfied with the superior quality of education and instruction that my children have received and are receiving from SHA.
I feel blessed to have found South Hills Academy when my children were young. It is, hands down, the best school in the area and the tuition is very reasonable. My husband and I are definitely getting the "bang for our buck" at SHA. I have highly recommended SHA to my family and friends who are looking for the right school to send their children during their formative years. We have been a part of the SHA family for more than a decade and having my kids attend SHA is, far and away, the best decision we have ever made as parents in ensuring an exceptional academic, holistic, and faith-based foundation for our children who are our most precious blessings.

We couldn't be happier about moving to the state of Oregon to attend this lovely school. We experienced public schooling with our four children, before we learned about Waldorf. We loved the idea that the whole child is educated (hands, head, and heart,) and are amazed by how the curriculum does this so beautifully. The kids learn to think in freedom, paint, move, sculpt, carve, sing, and are surrounded by so much beauty everyday. Amazing teachers and teacher training staff. Beautiful community. Sibling discount a bonus!
