When I was in this school I was bullied... badly. Not only did the teachers know about it bit they encouraged it. On one occasion I was forced to sit with the rest of the girls at lunch while being ridiculed to the point of tears. Also don't think your kids aren't thinking about sex. I remember one of the girls bragging about making out with one of the boys in a closet and being pressured to go further, at the ripe old age of ten.

After its initial beginnings as a Saturday school in Montebello teaching the Armenian language and culture, Armenian Mesrobian School was founded in 1965. The first year, the student body totaled 65 and classes included kindergarten through third grades. One grade level was added each year, and as the number of grades and the student population increased, the building was added on to and expanded. The first high school senior class graduated in 1975. Until 1984, the school occupied its original campus on Beverly Road. Then the school moved to a leased facility in the El Rancho Unified School District. Mesrobian relocated in 1997 back to the original school site after a massive effort on the part of individuals and organizations within the community resulted in the complete renovation of the campus. Mesrobian offers a comprehensive educational program, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, to students ranging from early childhood education through twelfth grade. The college preparatory high school classes are certified to the University of California, and honors or Advanced Placement classes are offered for high school students. Mesrobian is a K-12 private Armenian School.

My family recently moved from Texas to California for Gillispie, where I work and where my daughter is enrolled in Kindergarten. I'm continuing to learn about the importance of raising empathetic children and the positive impact it has on their academic and personal lives; about the need for plentiful play and recess in elementary education; about how teaching children to ask questions and to learn by experimentation and iterative design is so critical. These are just a few areas where Gillispie shines. I'm so lucky to get to see my daughter building the foundations now (kindness, curiosity, communication, love of learning) that will be so impactful on what she can contribute to the world when she's all grown up.
