WCA Home Assisted Living Facility

WCA Home Assisted Living Facility

134 Temple St, Fredonia, New York, 14063, United States
I TOTALLY DISAGREE with mik ahern's review. He is judgmental and snide. It sounds like he is young and this is the first "old folks home" he has ever seen. Yes, mik ahern, people grow old and infirm. It is not pretty. But the residents here are not dying. They are living. Yes, their physical and mental abilities are reduced, but the Home is helping them live better lives despite this by offering dozens of activities of all sorts to keep them engaged and active. Forced prayer? Well, for one thing the WCA stands for Women's Christian Association (no longer in existence). mik ahern doesn't realize that the generations that live here grew up with organized religion as part of their daily spirituality. What he finds disgusting (prayer and saying grace at meals) they find familiar, comforting, meaningful. And it is not forced. A resident doesn't have to participate if she doesn't want to. And one doesn't have to be Christian to become a resident of the Home. No doubt by the time you get old (gasp! yes, it WILL happen to you, if you are fortunate), services offered by assisted living facilities will have changed and whatever your generation finds appealing is what will be offered to residents.. Smelly? i visit routinely to see my 75 yr. (oldest) sister who lives here, and do not notice any smell (and my "ancient" nose is still working just fine, thank you). Residents have "accidents," yes, but the staff immediately clean these up and clean up the resident, too. Try doing that yourself for your grandmother, mik ahern. The food is very tasty (I've eaten there) and the cooks work diligently to provide creative, delicious, nutritious meals for the residents. They take into account special dietary needs of the residents, as well. Every staff member I've met is wonderful, dedicated to their work, and the residents receive excellent care and attention. The staff to resident ratio is 40 to 37. That is an exceptionally high ratio in assisted living facilities and means that the residents receive lots of attention and care, compared to the typical assisted living facility. Sure, some staff move on to other jobs. That happens everywhere, in any kind of job. The Home has a volunteer group that raises funds to pay for special activities like local trips and outings for the residents, sponsors an annual picnic for residents and their families or friends, decorates the Home for Christmas, and much more. Local groups participate too. For example, a local gardening group made small, fresh flower bouquets that were left on the doors of each resident on May Day. So, mik ahern, if you live to age 80 or so, prove to be mortal and experience the inevitable decline of one's body, you should be so lucky as to "end up" living in a place like the WCA Home. Tammy Skelly's review says it all, "Quality care at affordable prices."

This nursing home is the best I have seen. The staff are excellent, meals superb, and it has a homey atmosphere. The halls and rooms are bright, and larger than average. It is well managed and great care is taken to keep residents happy.

Dayspring Residence - Retirement, Respite and Recovery

My Mother was diagnosed with Salmonella ,Feb. of this year and we nearly lost her as a result of complications with her illness. My Mother needed extra care and could not return to her own home or live unassisted. We found Dayspring through word of mouth at T.M.H.We had heard it was small and homey and very relaxed. It was exactally what my Mother needed. The staff are amazing and it's very evident that they love work that they do. They are emotionally invested in keeping the residents happy and comfortable. The prepared delicious and very nutritional meals. With yummy comfort food and new and interesting alternatives . Unfortunatly I wanted my Mother closer to me and I am a resident of London. Both my husband and I work full time and we have a child with special needs . It was just too difficult to travel back and forth. So we have had to move my Mother to another facility her in London. In the words of my Mother and I quote" if I had lots of money we would pick the whole place up and move it (everyone)to London."
