Canine Reflections

Canine Reflections

1221 S Railway St, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2W5, Canada
I have used Canine Reflection for several years and was more than happy with the treatment and care that was provided to my dog. No longer is this the case since new ownership has taken over, as my experience has been nothing but a nightmare. My first bad experience happened in May 2018, as I had asked Jaylene ( the new owner ) that I was very uncomfortable with allowing my 11 pound to be around large dogs, especially one in particular that frequently boards there, as I had first hand information whereby this dog grabbed my sister's young poodle by the neck while she was dog sitting this dog in her own home. Instead of Jaylene being sympathetic to my request, she was very confrontational and tried to tell me this did not happen in the manner in which it did. I expected her to abide by my wishes, as I want to feel at ease whenever I have my dog in daycare, but I recently discovered that she has been ignoring my concerns. My second bad experience took place on Friday, July 27, 2018. I had left my dog in their care at around eleven am that morning and went to pick my dog up at 5:30 that afternoon. The temperature was very hot with no breeze. As I got out of my vehicle, I noticed there were anywhere from 10-14 little dogs outside in the kennel with one large German Shepard. I have no idea how long they had been out there but when I entered the building, there was one staff member present whom I had never met before. When I told her I was there to pick up Lucy my dog, she told me that there was no dog there by that name. I told her I just saw her in the kennel when I drove up, she proceeded to tell me that my dog was not there. I told her two more times that my dog was outside in the kennel and she just stood there bewildered. I actually had to say to her ‘are you going to give me my dog?’ I then asked her why the little dogs were in the kennel with the German Shepard and that they were setting themselves for a potential injury. She commented that the staff did not know what they were doing and was very apologetic. She asked me to go outside to the kennel so that I could identify my dog, which I did and took her home. My third bad experience took place on July 31, 2018 when I went to pay my monthly bill. Duncan was at fron desk and when Jaylene heard my voice she came out and her first response was I hear there was a problem. So I reiterated the happenings that I mentioned in the above paragraph and she proceeded to tell me that she screens all her dogs and knows which big dogs can be around little dogs. I told her that I personally have a fear of big dogs and I do not want Lucy around the big dogs and I have voiced my concerns regarding this issue prior to July 27. She ignored my comment and proceeded To tell me that Lucy loves big dogs and follows her into the kennel all the time where the big dogs are located. She then said she would be more worried about some of the chihuahuas that are there mingling with the little dogs as opposed to the big dogs, which now poses another concern. If she is worried about what these chihuahuas are capable of doing, then why does she have them centrally located with the other small dogs. This is a new problem which she brought to my attention as I just thought that the small dogs all got along. Other than her confrontational attitude, no apology was provided for the mix up which occurred on July 27, 2018. My last concern and observation is that the previous owners were always on top of ensuring that all vaccinations were up to date for all dogs that boarded within the facility. My dog’s vaccinations were due at the beginning of July which she received and not one staff member has yet to ask me for an updated medical report to verify that she has had all her shots. I can’t help but wonder how many other dogs have been overlooked regarding this matter. Perhaps once they read this review, they may get on top of this situation for the safety of all the other dogs that board there. Respectively, Carla Anderson
