Larissa is an amazing stylist. Her salon is extremely affordable and she's NEVER let me down. And I can be a tough patient--I'm terrible at describing the style or color I want, but somehow she just knows. And she's a great conversationalist too. I always get a great laugh out of our chats. I HIGHLY recommend her.

One of the best salon experiences I've ever had. I have been in Pittsburgh for 6months and have been through a couple of stylist but none of them can be compared to Kelly. Kelly did not only educate me on my hair but gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had(can only say that about 2 other stylists in Maryland and Boston). She is very professional and only does hair by appointment (never overbooked), she also listens and worked with me to create the style that I wanted. Her salon is very neat and organised. Love! love! love! this place and I'm very choosy when it comes to my hair. I will definitely go back!!

Great im a repeat customer. Great service in and out

It's hard to give a review on the store as a whole so I'll split it up into store section and salon. I've only been to the salon once. The girl who cut my hair was so incredibly friendly and lovely but she sort of didn't do a great job on the cut. All I asked for was a trim and some layers to be cleaned up and she didn't really do much. What she did do was choppy and uneven. I'm not super happy with it but I'm also not very picky about my hair. It was just frustrating since it seems to be a really simple and straightforward cut and it didn't even look nice. She was so nice though that it was hard to post a bad review about it. Now the store section is very hit or miss. There are a few key things I go here for that never seem to be in stock and I have to buy online. I use mostly cheap make up except for three or four things that I think are worth the cost and ULTA always seems to be out of them. Literally the last 4 times I went there for Lancome Pore Eraser they didn't have it in stock and that is frustrating. The girls who work the floor are sometimes nice but often ignore you. I've had some very pushy sales girls and I don't like that. One of them tried to push the wrong color foundation on me after I asked for a different shade that wasn't in stock. She acted like I didn't know my own skin tone or what looked best on me and sat me down to "test" a darker shade that frankly looked hideous on me. Sometimes I've run into very rude employees or ones who followed me around the store like I was trying to steal something, presumably because I was in sweats and looking in the expensive section. Occasionally there are some pleasant ones and the cashiers are usually either friendly or neutral. They do, however, have a great selection with such a large range of prices and quality that you can always find what you're looking for (even if none of the sales people are very helpful). Nothing I've experienced was bad enough to cause me to stop going here, just to not ask for help from employees.

Best Dominican salon in the area. Very clean shop. It’s busy but they are always fully staffed and move quickly with proficiency. They do a great wash and set for $25! And they use good products!

Lorraine is the owner and is the best! I left my stylist of 10 years to come here. I made my first appt. two years ago and haven’t looked back. In addition to doing my locs, Island Design also colors my hair and keeps these grays at bay. Choosing Island Design and deciding to Loc are the two best hair decisions I have ever made!
