One of my favorite spots in DC! So excited that they opened a location on U Street. Definitely make a reservation because this place gets pretty crowded, but totally worth it. The food (particularly brunch) is amazing and they have a wide drink selection! There’s lots of seating and multiple bars which is kind of unprecedented in a big city! Worth checking out for sure.

Our server in the bar area was outstanding! Attentive, funny, charming, and never intrusive. Kicking myself for not keeping my receipt or remembering his name, but I remember he’s from Chattanooga TN! I was excited to try their Tuesday fish and chips special, which is a substantial portion of fried fish, kale, and smashed potatoes. The fish tasted great, but was too oily to eat the whole -large- fillet. I know that’s the nature of a fish fry sometimes, but it might be better to share this dish than tackle it alone. Oh, and the tartar sauce was just right. We also tried the Mac and cheese (super rich and creamy) and the kale flare bread (which I didn’t try but looked delicious and my dining partners seemed to enjoy). I love that they have house made sodas—the cucumber ginger beer was tasty and refreshing. We all agreed we would definitely return. I can definitely recommend The Smith for a nice happy hour or meal.

Two bottles of cold water; one bubbly and the other regular, is a nice touch. Bread and butter is nice too and the bread is good and chewy! The Smith burger was very good! Tons of french fries. Attentive service. A bit pricey, but worth the service and little extras.

Exceptional service! We showed up with no reservation at the beginning of peak time. Staff were cordial and accommodating, as we had a 7 YO & 10YO who were hungry. Knowing that restaurants like this that are busy and in high demand it was nice to see customer service shine. The waiter was super and food was excellent. To top it off our phones were dieing and needed charging staff went out of their way to charge them. Thank you for providing a family from out of town with great food and service! We highly recommend visiting here.
