Dance Studio

This dance school is terrible. The studio space they occupy is insufficient, at best. The kids trip on each other trying to get in and out of the buliding. I am so disappointed with the entire experience. I had to send my daughter's recital costume back as they ordered her an adult size and wanted her to use another child's costume that was also too big. They didn't get my daughter a bun kit when I ordered it, and then to add insult to injury, they omitted my daughter's name from the recital program. Clearly they didn't care about my child at all.

Cool place to check out some live music. It is a small/cozy venue. I was expecting it to be larger. Worth the drive from Ottawa for sure. Definitely hoping to go again soon to see more bands.

I have been a student at KRSHD for 15 years, and it has been nothing but a wonderful experience. Katharine welcomed me to her school as an adult when other teachers wouldn't and encouraged me to take exams, to perform, and to enter competition alongside the kids and teens. Today, our school has a thriving adult program of which I am extremely proud! Our adults compete at every level from beginner to premier, take exams all the way up to teaching certification, and regularly perform both locally and abroad (even as far as Scotland). Highland dancing is not just for kids, and nowhere is that more true than at KRSHD.

Amazing place to send you children no matter what previous experience they have. Michelle is a wonderful instructor and you can see how far the children have come at the recitals! Bravo Michelle!

Thanks for keeping the exterior clear of snow and litter. I was so happy to see all the dancers working diligently on technique last year.

My husband and I were looking for dance instructors for our upcoming wedding ceremony, and came upon Fred Astaire due to their high reviews. We loved our instructor Denise, you can tell she is a professional and made the lessons fun. However, we were a little disappointed as we felt we had to make long term commitments to our dance lessons when at the moment we were only looking to learn for our first dance in the wedding. Denise was able to teach us the basics of most latin dances, and we learnt few dance steps for the beginning and the end part of our song. For the middle part of our song, we had to figure out on our own because while we were told at the beginning that 5 classes would give us a basic overview of the steps for the entire song, during the end we were told 5 classes were not enough. There was pressure to sell more classes, which is normal given the nature of the job, however, we would have at least expected to get the full routine for the song we've chosen. There was a lot of repitition in the first few classes, which could otherwise be used to learn new steps, eventually leading to covering the whole song. I would not recommend Fred Astaire to couples looking for choreographed wedding dance, unless you are willing to take minimum 10 classes or will continue with them in the long term. They do not offer hourly classes and are package-based lessons with minimum 5 classes. However, if you are looking to dance as a hobby or have a longer commitment to develop your skills, they are definitely the place to go to. Everyone is friendly, the place is clean and you cannot deny their passion in teaching dance.
