Martial Arts

CWMAI is an excellent martial arts school! My three kids have been attending since the oldest was in the first grade, and he is now 14 years old. Matt and Niki, and their family, have been wonderful to work with. Very patient, and they communicate well and comfortably, with their students and the parents. I have noticed big changes in all three of my children, in particular with their focus, self confidence, and self discipline. They learn the martial arts forms very well, and they also take away life lessons from their instruction. Thank you for a wonderful experience and fantastic service!

My 8 year old has been taking classes for almost 3 years and my 13 year old stepson joined almost 2 years ago. Since beginning martial arts classes here, our 13 year old's confidence and self discipline have risen exponentially. He went from incomplete courses and barely passing classes to now excelling in his advanced classes with A's and B's! He's volunteered to run and won the role of patrol leader in Boy Scouts, he's joined after school clubs and helps to run them. Things he'd never have the guts to do before. This isn't a competitive style learning center. This is all about giving the kids the skills to defend themselves if the need arises and to gain the confidence to try new things and keep themselves accountable. Sifu Jamie Sparling has influenced and impacted our lives in such great ways! He's a wonderful coach and mentor!

My daughter and I participated in Five Rings free Women's Self Defense class they are holding for 4 Saturdays in April, and it was a very informative, hands-on experience I would highly recommend to women of all ages! Master Decker and his wife are two of the most generous people I have ever met!

Both my sons have trained at Catura's Martial Arts Center for the last 7 years. They are now both black belts. Catura's was a good fit for us and it has been good for our boys. We have enjoyed the family atmosphere and the family values that are promoted there. One of my sons is able to assistant teach in the younger classes. Catura himself has been in business for many years and is well known in the community. He is honest and reliable.

My family and I love Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do. It is a great family activity. It is something we can be proud of, and I feel better about my children's safety, knowing that they are learning to defend themselves. Just the confidence they are gaining in themselves has made a big difference. I am also proud of being part of great a great school that "gives back" to the community.

Jason Tucker teaches a very practical form of aikido. The movements are taught to be efficient with heavy emphasis on individual safety. He brings a calm and methodical teaching style to his classes. The children's classes emphasize correct body movement and utilize games to teach children how to dodge attacks. My son has been a student for the past five years and began wrestling this year. He has taken to the sport quickly because of his aikido foundation. The family class allows parents to participate with their children and to drill with other adults. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class is one year old. The BJJ portion of the school is a Rigan Machado affiliate. The grappling coach is Cody Strey. Cody approaches instruction with a genuine passion for grappling. Sparring is available from day 1 with emphasis placed on skill development and strategy. A family class is also available for parents who want to train with their children. Wrestlers would benefit from cross training with us in the off season. I highly recommend this school to anyone interested in martial arts and self defense in Marshfield.

I would like to explain why my son is no longer involved with this organization. My 11 year old son came home from karate class limping and unable to put his legs together. He proceeded to show me a big purple welt on his inner thigh, given to him by his 7th degree 'master'. The instructor was demonstrating bear-hug defense and purposely pinched my son extremely hard on his inner thigh, leaving a painful purple welt and leaving my son questioning why a trusted, respected teacher of martial arts would inflict needless pain on him. As a parent and a student of martial arts, I needed to know as well. 'Master' Jim explained to me on the phone, that by his choice, he does those things to the children to "toughen the kids up". How about wind sprints until puking? How about kicking a pad until you can't lift your leg?? You take it upon yourself to physically hurt our children with your own hands? 'Master' Jim was anything but apologetic on the phone and kept preaching that he's been demonstrating this move for over 20 years. At the age of 11, my son has been immersed in karate and kickboxing for most of his life. He's always full of new bruises and welts from competing, so I'm not too concerned with superficial injuries. We just moved to the area and thought Villari's would be a good fit for him. I was dead wrong. I would never subject my children to a martial arts instructor, who sends the kids home with marks that he intentionally left on them. This was during a demonstration in front of the class. They were not actively grappling or sparing. This was a red flag, not only to the injury of my son, but to be teaching a self defense technique that utilizes a pinch to the skin.... He declined to demonstrate the pinch on me, after I willing told him I'd love to come in to drill bear-hug defense with him. #mcdojo
