Charles Gracie Jiu Jitsu
603 Taraval St, San Francisco, California, 94116, United States
I have been a student at this school since October 2009, and I can only say good things about Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors and other students were incredibly encouraging and friendly from the very first minute I stepped in the door. I have been attending classes twice a week, and I am amazed at how much better I feel. I have greatly increased my strength, stamina and flexibility in just a few months.
The adult class is generally divided into three 30-min parts: 1) Warmup Exercises, 2) Learning New Techniques, 3) Friendly Sparring with other students. This combination is both fun and useful. I think I have already learned more practical self-defense skills than I could have in years of training in other martial arts.
I look forward to every class, and intend to stick with it for the rest of my life. If you are looking for a way to get in shape, learn useful self defense skills and connect with a friendly, focused group of others who are interested in the same thing - then this school is for you.

How lucky Santa Cruz is to have Linda Sensei as an instructor. How lucky to have an Aikido dojo in this city! I studied Aikido for 12+ years, 3-7 times a week.

I stumbled upon the San Jose Wing Chun (SJWC) school by accident when I was at SJSU. Through the last 6 years, I've been lucky enough to learn from Sifu Ben Der, a high school classmate with Hawkins Cheung and Bruce Lee.
Even though Sifu Ben learned from Ip Man, it wasn't until he met Kenneth Chung, a direct student of Leung Sheung (Ip Man's first student in Hong Kong), that he started to develop the Wing Chun he teaches today.
The best part of San Francisco Wing Chun is that it's taught by Sifu Ben's son, Sifu Francis Der, who's been doing it for 20+ years. This is also an official Leung Sheung school in SF.
There are no belts and the seniors are always willing to help out the beginners and intermediate students. As senior as some of the students are, they're always pushing to learn more and develop their skills.

Heart rate up, getting my sweat on, my muscles worked, thinking of people I'd love to punch in the face as I get my upper cuts and hooks on the bag, it can't get better than this! All the teachers are good and I love Saturdays because that's where I feel I really get my sweat on!
E.Y. Lee Kung Fu School
3247 Balboa St, San Francisco, California, 94121, United States
This is a traditional Kung Fu school that is non-commercial. The teacher, Everett Lee, teaches one on one to all students, and observes and personally corrects all students as they practice. Master Lee is also a Korean War infantry combat vet and knows both the practical applications of Kung Fu as well as the philosophy of compassion and self understanding. This shows in his gentle, caring attitude towards all students regardless of age, gender, race, or sexual orientation. There are no contracts requiring you to commit to stay x number of months into the future, you simply pay for the current month. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the advanced students - of whom there are many - help and encourage the newer students. I have been in martial arts since 1964, and I highly recommend this school.

Such a great place to be a part of!!! I take kickboxing and my boys are in the martial arts program. The kickboxing instructors are the best always challenging you to do/be your best. Great workout every single time. The martial arts program for the kids sets them up to do the best they can overall in life. OMA is very family oriented and they make you feel like you are family. They always give back to the community when possible and I think that's a great thing.

I used to go to this school, and well, what can i say, this school is amazing. All of the teachers are friendly and they help people out all the time. I went to this school for almost 6 years and havent regretted it once. the only reason i dont go there any more is because i had to move to a different state. this is a great school for everyone!!! they also offer Tai Chi training, also, a very good program.
