I picture the head chef with a 4' long beard, leathered skin, and a wheat sprout in his mouth. There may also be a stack of letters from Ted Kaczynski in his isolated mountain shack because this man knows the local food sources. I started with elk tartare, and moved on to the Bison short rib paired with a fine local pilsner. The tartare had an excellent mix of capers in a sea of buttermilk with rye crisps that melted in your mouth - a veritable food-gasm. The Bison short-rib fell off the bone and the mix of potato and sunchoke was a perfect compliment. If the German army were seizing Banff, I'd hole up here until I was dead or they ran out of food. If you're in Banff, and don't eat here, the best you can say is you've halfway experienced the locale.

The prices are also quite stable since 5 years.

Drove to Banff just for their waffles. The food is excellent. Waitresses are very thoughtful and put us in a corner away from the crowds as we had a young baby wit us. Only negative was no changing table in the toilets.

One of my favorite places for burgers, recommend building your own burger. Great cozy environment and great bar staff, highly recommended. However, you should expect a wait as there is limited seats.

Appalling lack of basic civility and customer service. First, they have samosas in the menu, these things take time to cook (they are not fast food)...then you tell the customer it will be ready in 5mins, which actually takes 25mins (i counted)...then instead of cancelling the order and paying me back that part of the order he is arguing with a customer that he did not tell me 5mins. So he basically told me I was lying, covering himself up.
In a low ,margin business he must count on enough fools to keep his business running, can i give it a minus rating. I wish i could.
Most of all, it is not Sri Lankan food......it is Indian food....please save your money and go spend it on Edo next door......

After spending 3 hours hiking Johnson Canyon we were ravenous and looking forward to Block.
The Block House Caesars were good. We ordered 4 tapas - takoyaki, calamari, 3 dip trio, and chicken skewers. The spicy red pepper and avocado dips were the winners The Asian inspired hummus was runny and watery and just meh. The takoyaki was really good complete with bonito flakes. The chicken was really juicy and crispy and the spicy mayo was the perfect condiment. The calamari was spicy crispy sweet and yummy.
Really friendly service in a cozy modern clean decor. Definitely worth a return trip.

This was a group lunch experience. I have been here with my school band before and the service has always been prompt and courteous.
Group lunch choices were: hot turkey sandwich, chicken Caesar salad, cheese burger, veggie burger, and single club sandwich. All mains came with either a salad or fries. Dessert and refillable soft drinks included. Group pricing was $21.00 a person.
Food came quickly (we did pre-order) and we were given a private room to the side of the restaurant. Very rustic decor (rough wood panelling).
One word of caution: Banff bylaw are real barbarians when it comes to buses even stopping at or near the restaurant so if your driver doesn't want to risk a ticket, you may have to walk a block or two. All in all though, a great place to take a group for lunch. Someday I'll bring a group for supper.
