Some time ago I had chipped my front tooth when I was in LA. I had it fixed in LA by an "upscale" dentist and then, moved to Hilo.
Within 6 month the cosmetic work done in LA failed and I had my chipped tooth back. I found Dr. Chong here in Hilo and I am glad I did. It's been a few years since Dr. Chong did the cosmetic work on that tooth and it's still going strong. Great guy, very professional. I would give 10 stars if I could.

A medical facility where their Pahoa screening nurse turned me away when I was having periodic right side numbness. It turned out I was having Transient Ischemic Attacks, confirmed by Hilo Medical Center. My wife was misdiagnosed with a kidney stone infection, when she had sepsis. She required an emergency life flight to Queen's Medical Center. And to boot we moved away and request our files to be sent to our new physicians, 4 months ago. You decide whether or not to trust your lives to them.

I am a retired Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who was expertly educated in chronic and acute pain management and practiced in this area for many years with a multidisciplinary team.
I am a patient of Dr's. Puana and the Puana Pain Clinic and have been for approximately 4 years. Their care has literally saved my life. Before their evaluation, treatment and follow up, I had been through physical therapy, naturopathic regimens, and everything in between, yet I lived in excruciating, chronic lower back pain and had been told "nothing" could be done. I was past desperate and had simply given up. Not what one wants to do when retiring to the beauty of the Big Island.
The evaluation, treatment, and continuing follow up care of Dr. Puana and staff has been nothing short of stellar-very professional, very polite, genuinely compassionate. I have been given the highest quality of care with the utilization of proven modalities, and yes, even good humor--remember, laughter and smiles heal, too.
Thank you Dr's Puana and staff-you make a HUGE difference in many, many lives.

I just had a root canal there done yesterday. The good is that it was quick, and I have negligible pain today - without pain meds.
The bad is that I felt pressured into getting the root canal yesterday. It was my first visit there, and if chose to think about it and come back later, it would cost an extra $170. I mean, root canals are a big deal, and the $180 that I had to pay for the procedure (with insurance) is enough to make me want to sleep on it for a bit. But nope, making a thorough decision would cost me $170. So, of course I did it. After signing the paper work, I asked to go to the restroom first, which was no big deal, but apparently I "lost my place in line" (assistant's phrase) and he went on to do a procedure on someone else. I felt like the whole operation was just get us in, and get us out and make as much money as efficiently as possible - not the patient's concerns and qualms over oral surgery. Thankfully, I had the time to wait while he operated on someone else, and thankfully the procedure was done well so that even if it was rushed, it was done well. But I would rather have waited to pay the $180 in full rather than put it on my credit card, when I wasn't exactly prepared to pay it. And I didn't like that he was jumping back and forth between surgeries.
And stupid insurance was not going to cover a little internal bleaching to make the tooth color match a little better the others, but that's not Dr. Sakamoto's fault.
