Excellent place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have trained at a 3 different gyms across Canada and none compare to van Isle BJJ. The facility, instructors and overall gym vibe is tremendous. For anyone looking to train in Victoria , this is the place to be.

I have known Gabriel Shaw for many years. He is a great student, friend and teacher. Clean friendly environment. Many class options with a precise curriculum. Really a quality club with a great lineage. I Recommend this club for anyone who has experience or is just wanting to try out the Wing chun system.

The instruction that Jason provides is quality. Jason demonstrates that good footwork and defensive fighting is paramount. The number of slip/counter/move combinations that Jason will show you are infinite. Jason will also help you tweak and fine tune your stance and technique to maximize power. The fighters that are farmed out of Island MMA all leave with potential of becoming professional fighters and a hand full of them have gone on to make careers from fighting. In my time at this gym I have seen people sign up and fumble over their feet to turn into graceful technical fighters that go on to fight in the amateur fights put on by AFC. If you want to learn how to fight or just get a good workout then go to Island MMA. I have been with this gym for almost 15 years and there is a reason that I will never leave.

Tried to buy an item on their online site. I messaged a few questions I had and the replies were very brief and did not give me the details I wanted. Kept saying to check their online site as all the info. was there--it was not and not what I wanted to know. I was annoyed and checked online for other sites selling the same item. Found it cheaper and with reasonable postage. Most of their items are cheaper online from other sites. Lackluster staff and no customer service.

Excellent self defence training! The instructors were knowledgeable, professional and very attentive to the needs of the participants. Highly recommended!
