Cortez Martial Arts - Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
17800 Murphy Pkwy, Lathrop, California, 95330, United States
I couldn't say enough good things about Cortez Martial Arts. It's the place to go for all your Self Defense, staying fit, and martial arts needs. Cortez Martial Arts is not only an amazing place to learn Jiu Jitsu and SELF DEFENSE, (Because a LOT of Jiu Jitsu schools don't even touch self defense) but it's also an amazing place to learn life lessons, comradery, humbleness, and respect for yourself and others. As soon as I heard Sensei Jason say that Cortez Martial Arts is here to build confidence, character, and change lives, I knew I'd found my school.
This school is for ALL ages, and not only teaches Jiu Jitsu, but other forms of Martial Arts. AND, it's TOP NOTCH teaching.
I always come out a better person with each training session. There is nothing like going to a session and leaving a brand new and improved person and at Cortez Martial Arts and Charles Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the place to do that, specifically under Sensei Jason. Everyone is very welcoming and informative and are willing to help you on your journey. (Even the students!)
Don't waste your time and money on other places. Come on in and train, and welcome to the family.

I've had both my kids here for almost 8 years. Incredibly good youth programs for kids as young as 5.
Sijo John Beall is a legend in martial arts and he's there all the time. Head Instructor Matthew Soule is an amazing teacher and leader. I've seen a few other instructors come and go over the past decade and not one has been anything short of outstanding.

Han Martial Arts
2220 Mountain Blvd, Oakland, California, 94611, United States
we've been coming here for six months and love it. it's one of the few classes where we've seen our son so engaged, motivated and disciplined! he's almost a completely different kid when he walks through the doors.
come watch your child and see how master han and his team engage, encourage and teach the kiddos. it's amazing and delightful to see each child so engaged, focused, motivated, and actively participating with so much enthusiasm and happiness.
it's a great program to get some exercise and learn tae kwon do -- all with big smiles on their faces (including our little one). they're still smiling when they leave and look forward to the next class :) what's more, what you learn here - focus, listening, trying (never quitting), practicing, discipline, respect, and self-control -- are foundational elements that help you in all aspects of life. we can't say enough great things about master han and his team!

D.M.A is awesome, Sensie's Codie and Heather have taught me a lot. I have increased in fitness, martial arts, and self defense in amazing ways! By the way here at Defiance MA we earn our belts. They don't just hand you your belt for money... ever! I may have improved a lot in martial arts, but it wasn't easy! It took a lot of work and dedication! But I love it anyway! The instructors have taught me how to fight in practically every situation! P.S. I have never been to a better dojo than this one! Period! This is defintely not a McDojo!

It is obvious they truly care about their students. The camps are also fantastic here! Highly recommend AKMA!

Great with my kids and myself. Love the fact that they offer a free veteran's class on Friday nights. Everyone I have come in contact with have been nothing but nice. I plan on being there for quite awhile.

I decided to learn self defense because I was 87lbs and walking home from work was a constant worry. I was just going to the gym and trying to gain weight but I wanted to learn something so I had a goal to work towards. I started with Krav Maga. It's been about a month and I feel Confident from within, I've gained 11lbs and im always so excited to go to class to learn something new. It's not just a physical workout, a lot of it has to do with critical thinking and i really like that. I like the challenge, to figure out what to do in any situation. I gained awareness and i also feel that it's okay to be small, I can still protect myself and the people around me. I started Brazilian Jiu-jitsu because I feel like it comes hand in hand. Plus I heard it's an advantage being small. If I'm standing up and there's a conflict I have krav maga skills, but if I get pinned down I have Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. Then I tried Muay Thai and I keep going back for the endurance. They're different types of tired and I feel like i should know them for an all around skill. That way in any situation I won't be worried that I can't figure it out. My classmates have all been super supportive ive met some great friends already! In return, I try to help the new students feel welcome too. I love the culture in the gym, it's a great place to be!

Been a happy student since the beginning, nearly 10 years ago now. The pros include emphasis on quality of teaching, friendliness of staff, discipline of students. Hapkido is great, but it's only as good as the instructors that teach it. In the case of gum ying, everyone is quite dedicated and serious about ensuring a worthwhile, fun, and challenging experience. I highly encourage everyone to give it a try.
