Martial Arts

I've trained with the owner of this gym, Ryan, since before this place opened. He is very skilled at teaching, knows the material well, and works hard to ensure that everyone who attends his class has fun and learns how to defend themselves.

This has been great for my girls. Both started when they were 3 in the Tigers program, and my older one has since graduated to Ninjas and then to the regular kids program. There were times when I struggled as a parent because my older daughter was so uncoordinated, but Master Sorenson helped me to have patience and stick to it, and while my girl will never be naturally gifted, she has learned so much about how to practice and work hard, and has even won awards for effort and dedication, which has been amazing. My younger daughter, on the other hand, is getting a completely different set of skills. She is sometimes too coordinated for her own good, especially because her focus is lacking. At the beginning just getting through a class was an accomplishment, but now she is a pretty good example most of the time. I love seeing the lessons my girls learn, and the confidence they have to just be themselves. The words of the week are my favorite because the kids learn a word and then ways they can practice it that week, which lets me also talk about things at home that I maybe wouldn't think about. After the word "healthy" my older daughter is now willing to at least try each new food, and sometimes even passes up on treats because she's trying to eat less sugar... and this from my sugar baby! Something is getting through and I love it! :)

My training at this school was an experience that helped shape and direct my future. I am too far away to make it their regularly now, but whenever I travel through, it is a great experience to go and receive instruction. Before I began there I had three major spinal/neurological injuries. A few of the more basic movements were/are incredibly difficult for me, but even when I stagnated with the movements, the emphasis on the classical literature, principles and other activities/discussions I experienced pushed me forward in both my martial practice and other areas of my life.

This studio far exceeded our expectations. Perfect for all ages. Love... Love... Love the staff, and all of the improvements they have made, and continue to make. Professional, Personable and Affordable!!!

I have trained here for going on 16yrs. Its always intersting, informative and challenging. The environment is fun, yet tough and informative at the same time.the instructor cares about the students success and prepares the students for real life situations.

The atmosphere is super welcoming. I signed up for a free week and immediately felt treated like I was a regular. The technical instruction was good with clear direction and very practical advice. But the training was so beneficial. Everyone looks out for everyone’s development. People I had never met were showing me how to do different things. It was a great experience! Duayne is great! He is serious, but not like some martial artists you might think of. He creates a warm atmosphere where people feel free asking questions all the time. Great instructor.

To Reviewer - Alex Abeyta, I found you! I have been looking for your review! I am the student you walked in on. Master Gracey had me on the floor teaching me to throw off an attacker. You said, "I want to learn to do that", implying that you might want to be on top of me. Yes, Master Gracey asked you to leave. I am deeply grateful that students at Shaolin Arts are respected and protected and carefully screened. Alex, Learn some manners! By the way, my name was Michelle Butler at the time. I feel ten times more confident in my ability to protect myself than I was two and a half years ago. Kristina. They moved recently and ran into some things getting the gym up and running but they have pretty much settled in and it is looking awesome. The instructors there have been nothing but helpful to me in teaching me. Nobody can do everything perfect all the time and everybody makes mistakes but I can assure you all that Joseph and Jen are great people and great instructors. Take it from me. Somebody that has been training there for a couple years. Not somebody that has been there once or twice. I'm not gonna go on and on about every little thing she has said but I will tell you that if you check this place out for yourself you will find it to be much different than the way she is making it sound.

Great place

The instructors are amazing. I've progressive quite a bit since I started. Other students there are friendly. When you first start you have a friendly greeting.

I love this place me and my husband have been going here for over a year. We have learned so much, stayed in shape, and had a lot of fun. Definitely the place to go if you want to learn martial arts and self defense skills.

Master Kim is an excellent instructor - engaging, challenging, & fun at every level. The studio is clean, organized, & well run.

This was very disappointing! I wanted my child to actually learn Karate, but those classes are super expensive. The basice classes are just goofing around then you pay money and they hand your kid the next belt. Such a rip off!

The Krav Maga training is great. The instructors are awesome — they can teach a beginner like me or an advanced student like several of our classmates all at the same time. It was easy to start too — I wasn't sure to expect, but they made me comfortable right from the start and training began immediately. I love the extra confidence it's given me. Worth every penny.

My three boys attend here--two of whom have special needs. The atmosphere is so positive and the instructors are incredibly patient and focused. It's not only excellent karate instruction, but life mentoring as well. We feel blessed to have found such an amazing resource. Highly recommend!!
