Great service

I've gone to Eyewear Unlimited for my last two pair of glasses. Greg is familiar with the BTF reimbursement plans and Buffalo Public Schools health insurance coverage. He's always shown me the frames and lens that are covered and doesn't try to force an upgrade, but when I upgrade, he's always been spot-on on how much they would be out of pocket for me.

I purchased frames and lenses from Frame Up Eyewear in 2012. That's not recent, but the owner and optometrist have not changed since then. Helene is not the friendliest or most accommodating person you'll ever meet, but she is very talented at matching frames to faces. Dr. Gordon, who I saw multiple times over a period of several years at his Kenmore office rather than in this location, is personable, generous, and knowledgeable. I'm still wearing the glasses I bought in 2012, and that's one of the reasons I'm reviewing Frame Up today; I broke the temples of these very durable Theo brand titanium frames, and the staff were nice enough to look up my purchase records so I could look into finding replacement temples. Unfortunately, the frame is no longer being made, but the information was still helpful and appreciated. When I was shopping for these frames, I went to quite a lot of different optical boutiques, and no one had as wide or unique a selection as Frame Up. So, if you're having a hard time finding just the right pair for you, I recommend you check them out.

The owner, Vajih, helped me out big time. I needed to get new lenses for my glasses quickly, as one was broken after my dog chewed it. I called him at 6pm, and he said come on down and he could make them for me on the spot. By 7pm, I was back home with brand new lenses! He made them while I waited - about 15 minutes, all told. (I had tried Hakim Optical, and they said it would take 2 weeks, since they had closed all their labs and everything had to go to Toronto.)

Grumpy employees

I came across this small gem of an optician shop a number of years ago when my union had an eyeglass benefit which was fulfilled by Williamsville Optical. I was in my late forties at the time and like most people at that age, I was starting to need bifocals because my natural lenses could only focus at one distance. I had tried getting progressive lenses at several of the major optical retail chains, but the result was always the same: expensive lenses, blurry vision and excuses from incompetent opticians. Every time I moved my head from left to right, it was like looking through a fish bowl. When I went to Dr. Jans, however, at Williamsville Optical, he told me that my prescription was correct, but that my lenses hadn't been fitted right. The optical centers of the lenses didn't line up exactly with my pupils and more importantly, the vertical positioning of the lenses was incorrect. I remember him saying something like, "If progressive lenses are fitted right, you shouldn't be aware that you are wearing progressives." Sure enough, when his daughter Liz fitted me with new lenses, the fishbowl effect disappeared, and I could see clearly at all distances. Dr. Jans has since passed away and his two daughters have taken over the business. Now that I'm in my late 60's and my prescription is starting to change again, I'm grateful to know that Liz is there to take the time to properly measure and fit my new lenses.

From what I read I won’t go there

Came here after seeing reviews. Most friendly staff l've ever encountered at any establishment who also are down to earth. With recommendations for brands as well as feedback on fitting, l was able to decide on a frame. They are also very honest and willing to work with you, be it payments or helping you pick what suits you best. After 15ish years of wearing glasses, my new glasses are the only ones l've ever been extremely content with. They're comfortable, fit my head, and, obviously, help me see much better!
