Being newly married, my new husband and I (and our kitty Waifer) came back from a trip and decided we did not want to live in his house or my apartment anymore. He said to me I know where we are going to live - it is on Eglington and I've watched it being built from the bottom up, it's Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence. We arrived, met with the sales team and they showed us the available units. We chose one - a one bedroom overlooking Buttonwood Park, kind of just like living in the country in the summer time, and I’ve been here ever since (almost 11 years now)! I have found that the working staff are just the greatest people, our meals (like all places, have a few things to grumble about) but the beautiful a la carte selection to choose from makes up for thar. The rooms are kept very clean and I don't have to shop. We have a bus on hand though that will take you on outings and on shopping trips in the community too. I have met many dear friends here who we share day to day life with including attending many of the programs offered. There are many, many programs to choose from including cards, exercises, church services, educational talks and lectures, group entertainment, outings and programs with the local community. We also have a therapy pool which many places don't have. And we have a Tuck Shop that is open twice a week for everyday items and it is an excellent resource for those who cannot get out into the community. I can't speak highly enough either of the nursing care we have here either - there is always someone available to assist. Overall, I feel very secure, the diet is perfect (because there is choice!), there is no noise from my room (solitude), and being here almost 11 years, I have loved every minute of living at Scarlett Heights.

Fantastic experience with BrightStar. I called on a Sunday for help on a Tuesday. The staff was helpful, kind and courteous. Everything was seemlessly arranged. The nurse they sent was excellent. I would highly recommend

CBI provides my homecare one night per week. When my PSW went on vacation for 2 months, a replacement was not found and I had to go without. The attitude was "tough luck". I eagerly awaited my PSW's return but they forgot to put her back on my schedule when she did return, so I went an 4 extra weeks without care! I was promised a follow-up, but my manager never contacted me, even though I left her 3 messages. My manager Tresha Singh was very adamant about meeting me and meeting my needs, but once she did her initial consult (check), she never communicated with me again. Now, CBI has informed my social worker that they wont be servicing me past tonight. Well, my PSW didn't show up tonight either. In the past they have sent PSWs who didn't know what a refrigerator was or where to locate it (she thought it was in the bedroom whilst she was standing right in front of it in the kitchen). PSWs like that cannot provide care if they can't even find the fridge, let alone pass you what you ask for from within it. I'm a bed bound person living alone. Counting on CBI is a sure way to have your quality of life and lifespan deteriorate fast. They should simply give a euthanasia option instead of suffering clients like this. It's reprehensible.

Friendly environment for residents. Some staff not as attentive as others, but need reminding by resident family members.

With Stan Hrymak’s recent passing, I wanted to take a minute to say that over the years, Thornbrook’s help and support was very much appreciated. I was POA for Stanley for a couple of years until my work schedule took me away from the area at the end of 2013., and I’d like to share some of my observations during the time. In particular, I think Stanley and Maria had a good relationship and he liked her a lot. She understood his way of thinking and not only capably handled his many physical challenges, but could tune into his moods, offer him companionship, and even a little practice in his native Polish language. I think Maria is an excellent caregiver and is an asset to your agency. I also appreciate Barbara’s assistance, and when I would drop in for a visit, she always had excellent meals on the go, and really tried to focus on his nutrition. I remember Stanley really enjoyed mealtimes, and my thanks to Barbara for looking after him so well. I worked with Ruth on occasion regarding his nursing care, and always found her to be a caring and compassionate woman, who also understood Stanley and wanted the best for him. I am very thankful to Thornbrook management for sending us these three women are caring professionals who clearly consider that their work is more than just a job, and always did their best to ensure Stanley’s safety and comfort.
